Plan, develop, and review two connected responses
IELTS Writing has two tasks within one 60-minute module. Task 1 requires at least 150 words and is commonly allocated about 20 minutes; Task 2 requires at least 250 words and is commonly allocated about 40 minutes.
Task 1
Academic candidates describe and compare the important features of supplied visual information. General Training candidates write a letter that covers three stated points in an appropriate tone.
Task 2
Both variants require an essay responding directly to the prompt. A strong practice response states a clear position where needed and develops ideas with relevant explanation and support.
A useful practice approach
Reserve planning and checking time without forcing an automatic task switch. Keep the prompt visible, write in connected prose, and review whether the response covers every task requirement before refining language.
