Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how NorthPrep (“NorthPrep”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use our website and services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information — your email address, password (stored in hashed form by our authentication provider), and optional profile details such as a display name.
  • Usage and practice data — practice attempts, answers, scores, estimated levels, writing responses, speaking transcripts (and recordings when you submit them for feedback), progress, and feedback or messages you send us.
  • Payment information — if you purchase paid access, payment is handled by our third-party payment processor. We receive limited transaction details (such as confirmation, amount, and a payment identifier) but do not collect or store your full card number.
  • Technical data — basic information such as device, browser, approximate region, log data, and cookies or similar technologies needed to keep you signed in and to operate and secure the Service.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • create and authenticate your account and keep you signed in;
  • provide the Service, save your progress, and generate score history and review pages;
  • produce automated writing, speaking, and answer feedback;
  • process payments and grant paid access;
  • send you service emails about your account and activity, and occasional emails about NorthPrep features and offers — every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing never affects service emails such as purchase receipts;
  • respond to support and feedback requests;
  • maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms; and
  • fix problems and improve the Service.

3. Legal bases

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on: performance of our contract with you (to provide the Service); your consent (which you may withdraw); our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the Service); and compliance with legal obligations.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and secure the Service. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling necessary cookies may prevent the Service from working.

5. Service providers (sub-processors)

We share information with trusted providers only as needed to operate the Service, under agreements that require them to protect it. These include providers for hosting and content delivery, authentication and database storage, payment processing, and automated speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and language-model feedback. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own unrelated purposes.

6. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it: with the service providers described above; to comply with law, legal process, or a valid government request; to protect the rights, safety, and property of NorthPrep, our users, or others; and in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will continue to protect it under this Policy.

7. International transfers

We and our providers may process and store information in countries other than yours, including Canada and the United States. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

8. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterwards only as required for security, dispute resolution, legal, tax, or transaction-record obligations. When no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location (for example, under Canada’s PIPEDA, the EU/UK GDPR, or similar laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict the processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent or object to certain processing. To make a request, email support@northprep.ca. We will respond as required by applicable law. You may also stop using the Service at any time.

11. Children

The Service is intended for adult test preparation and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from such children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Independent platform

NorthPrep is an independent practice platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Paragon Testing Enterprises or any official CELPIP test provider. See our Terms of Use for details.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.

14. Contact

The person responsible for the protection of personal information at NorthPrep is its owner and operator, who can be reached at support@northprep.ca. For privacy questions or requests, email the same address.
