IRCC assigns core/human-capital points to Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening separately. The current maximum is 32 points per ability with an accompanying spouse or common-law partner and 34 per ability without one, for maximum First Official Language subtotals of 128 and 136 respectively.

This language-factor subtotal adds the points from all four abilities; it does not average them. The calculator identifies one lowest CLB ability so you can see the direct points available from improving it. Separate program thresholds and skill-transferability factors are outside this estimate.

The improvement message compares the selected ability's current official row with the next CLB level. Some levels share a row—CLB 4 and CLB 5 both receive 6 points per ability—so a one-level increase does not always change this subtotal. Other CRS effects are not included.

Use the identified skill as a study priority, then practise its task types under realistic timing and review the evidence behind mistakes. Practice can support preparation, but NorthPrep cannot predict an official CELPIP result, CRS score, invitation, or immigration outcome.

No. Age, education, work experience, spouse factors, skill transferability, additional points, and every other CRS factor are excluded.
Use the with-spouse setting for an accompanying spouse or common-law partner. IRCC says candidates earn points as if they do not have a spouse or partner when that person is not accompanying them, or is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
No. It shows only the direct change in First Official Language points for one ability. Changes elsewhere in CRS must be checked separately with IRCC's official tools and criteria.
